Severe waterlogging has been caused by the closure of the sewerage line on the Darussalam Habib Nagar connection road in Keraniganj, Dhaka. The environment of roads and homes has become terrible due to the accumulation of dirty water. In this situation, local residents are facing serious health risks. Various types of pathogens are spreading, and the risk of diarrhea, skin diseases and other water-borne diseases is increasing.

Local BNP leaders and activists have come forward in such critical times. Under the direction of the party’s central leader Babu Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury, the workers of Subhadhya Union’s 1st Unit BNP and allied organizations started the work of cleaning the sewerage line on a voluntary basis.

This humanitarian initiative was led by Mosharraf Hossain Badal, General Secretary of 1st Unit BNP. He was accompanied by former Ward 1 BNP president Shafiqul Islam Faruk, general secretary of the Volunteer Party Rajib Ahmed Rajib, former publicity secretary Ashraful Islam Babu, office secretary Rubel, member Parvez and local leaders and activists.

At that time, the locals praised their work and said, “When no one comes forward in such difficult times, the BNP boys have worked on their own initiative by providing sanitation workers to clean the sewers. We are grateful.”

Local resident Haji Hannan said, “This is not politics, this is humanity. We want such public service activities to continue forever.”

BNP leaders said, “Politics is not just for power, it is our moral responsibility to be by the side of the people. We believe in the ideals of BNP founder martyr President Ziaur Rahman—serving the people is real politics.”

Meanwhile, the locals have drawn the attention of the local administration for a quick permanent solution. However, this initiative of BNP has proven that one can stand by the people by ignoring party identity only if there is will and sincerity.

Politics dedicated to public welfare is still alive today, when a party stands by the people and takes practical initiatives. Such work by the local BNP can also be a positive message for the political arena.

Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, a five-time former member of parliament from Comilla-3 constituency, is returning home after a long 13 years.

He landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Saudi Airlines flight at 11:20 am on Saturday, said his younger brother Kazi Shah Arefin.

At that time, political leaders and activists and family members welcomed him.

Kaikobad was exiled outside the country for 13 years, a victim of a false and conspiratorial case by the fascist government.

Thousands of leaders and activists and people from different walks of life from Muradnagar gathered at the airport area to welcome Kaikobad. Locals said that people from Muradnagar upazila came to Dhaka in 400 buses and more than 2,000 microbuses to welcome him.
